Finding My Forever Home
Martha Mathew

I used to live all by myself on the cold, dark street. Every day was scary, and I never knew if I would find even a little piece of food to eat. But then, one warm afternoon, a kind person spotted me sitting under a bush. They picked me up gently and brought me to a brand new house.
At first, I was super nervous. My heart was thumping in my chest, and I was worried the people inside wouldn't like me at all. I squeezed myself into a dark corner behind the couch and stayed as still as a statue so nobody would notice me.
Then came the absolute best part of the day: dinner time! The second I heard the crunch of pet food falling into a bowl, I forgot all about being shy. My tummy gave a huge rumble, and I dashed straight into the kitchen. But just as I reached out, two big older cats zoomed past me and shoved me out of the way! They took over the whole dish, leaving no room for me. I dropped my tail and backed away, feeling sad and hungry.
Luckily, the owner saw the whole thing happen. They gently moved the big cats over and placed a brand new bowl filled right to the top, just for me. It was my very own dinner!
After we finished eating, the kids ran over with huge smiles. They sat cross-legged on the floor and brought out their favorite feather toy so we could play together. We spent the whole evening pouncing, chasing, and running around the living room.
When I finally curled up in my cozy, warm bed that night, I purred as loud as I could. I wasn't a lonely stray anymore. I was finally home.
